We endorse the SAP view of small businesses, which effectively categorises small and medium sized businesses (SMB’s) into Basic, Advanced and Sophisticated types.

 

SAP Business One specifically targets the ‘Advanced’ SMB, which can best be described as follows:-

·         10 – 250 employees with less than 30 professional users.

·         Up to £40m Turnover (100,000 transactions per annum)

·         Outgrown their accounting only system and would like an integrated view of the business (see SAP Business One)

·         Has a maximum of 5 physical warehouses

·         Relatively straight forward business processes

·         Service, Wholesale, Retail or Light Manufacturing

·         Independent small business or autonomous subsidiary or satellite operation needing to integrate with an SAP driven Head Office.

·         Limited IT capability with a preference for an on premise system.

Or, to summarise; those who need to model and control their business processes using a software system.  SAP Business One provides the majority of the functions required by SMB’s “out of the box” and can be implemented in a matter of days.

 

‘Basic’ businesses will find the functionality of the Sage 50 product range perfectly sufficient to control the finances.  Sage is a well known UK brand and provides a mature product in a number of guises that will cater for the needs of smaller businesses with straight forward business processes.  You can buy a significant number of Add-ons to extend the functionality of Sage 50, but these come at a price and the systems are not usually fully integrated.

To complete the SAP market analysis, ‘Sophisticated’ SMB’s are those with more complex business processes and their requirements are catered for in mySAP All-on-One.  Whilst we do not handle these implementations at present we can facilitate meetings with SAP Channel Partners who do provide this service.
